Margot Robbie Playing Harley Quinn

Margot Robbie is looking to take a break from the Harley Quinn character. The actress said so herself during the pre-launch marketing campaign for James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is just a couple of weeks away from release. It will have a huge mountain to climb in order to beat Marvel's latest cinematic effort, Black Widow. The Scarlett Johansson-led movie scooped over $200 million in its opening weekend and is guaranteed to become the most successful box office release since the beginning of the pandemic.

The DCEU's answer is The Suicide Squad - a soft reboot of 2016's film of (almost) the same name. One of the few returning stars for the new adventure of Task Force X is Margot Robbie. Her portrayal of Harley Quinn is among the very few positive things about 2016's Suicide Squad. However, fans of Margot, Harley and the DCEU will be disappointed to find out that the actress is looking for a break from the DC character.

Margot Robbie: Most Dramatic On Screen Transformations

Margot Robbie has been all Harley Quinn for the last two years. Before filming for The Suicide Squad began, the Australian actress was busy with another DCEU release: Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.

Filming these two immense projects back-to-back has taken its toll on Robbie, who is now seeking a break from the baseball bat-wielding lover of the Joker.

It was kind of back-to-back filming Birds and filming this, so I was kind of like, oof, I need a break from Harley, because she's exhausting. I don't know when we're next going to see her. I'm just as intrigued as everyone else is.

Birds Of Prey's Margot Robbie Explains Why She Loves Playing Harley Quinn So Much

That last bit makes it clear that this apparent hiatus is in part due to the DCEU's own schedule of releases and Margot Robbie's uncertainty of when exactly her services are going to be required again.

Nevertheless, with Birds of Prey coming out last year and The Suicide Squad this year, DC Studios should give Margot some breathing room before Harley's inevitable return to the big screen.
