When it comes to ‘nailspo’ for the festive, party season - there’s no better place to look than the red carpet, right? From Hailey Bieber’s glazed nail trend to Camila Cabello’s galactic look, Jennifer Lopez’s stunning wedding mani to Serena Williams’ glittery tips - we’ve been blessed with some looks this 2022.

Margot Robbie's Red Carpet Gown Is One Every Craft Queen Will Fawn Over

But we couldn’t help but notice Margot Robbie’s nails on the red carpet for the Babylon movie premier - and the chic, bare monochrome look she opted for.

Celebrity nail manicurist, seen on the fingernails of some of the most famous stars Tom Bachik, has shared a breakdown of how to get Margot’s red carpet mani - and we can’t wait to recreate the look ourselves. Best of all? Her Essie nail polish in Licorice, costs just £7.99!

Essie Licorice nail polish is the darkest rock star black nail colour with eternally cool and effortlesly chic finish. This dark nail varnish laces up a deep, dark and delicious look for a rockstar attitude with sophisticated style.

Tom, who’s the man we have to thank for Jennifer Lopez’s wedding nails, has explained went on to explain in detail how to get her look on his Instagram account.

He then adds that he “chose a short strong square nail shape to start our design. Next I cleansed the nails and applied one thin coat, Essie basecoat, one thin coat of Skinny Dip by Essie and let dry for a minute.” This was a nail polish from 2017, so you could opt for another nude like the ExprEssie Quick Dry Formula, Pink Nude Nail Polish 60 in Buns Up, also for £7.99.

Once those dried and using Essie Licorice, with a detail brush, he “created a small triangles on the outside corner of each nail then finished it off with Essie’s gel topcoat.”

And just look at the result! It’s so simple yet chic - and we think pretty easy to do, considering we’re not all nail experts!

Our top tip if you don’t have access to a nail brush? You could use a piece of sellotape to help create the shape - or a very, steady hand!

So if you've been struggling with a nail design to rock this New Year's Eve, we think Margot Robbie and Tom Bachik might have nailed it - literally!

Last week at the Golden Globes, the stunning Margot Robbie looked incredible in her pink beaded Chanel dress as she took to the red carpet. As always, her makeup and hair looked immaculate. But we wonder if you spotted her nails?

Margot Robbie Nail Polish & Nail Art

The blonde sensation, who was nominated for Best Actress at the GG's, sported a stunning natural manicure, perfected by Tom Bachik, manicurist to the stars.

He explained: For nails, we wanted to complement the dress and carry over the soft but deliberate feel. After meticulously manicuring her nails I applied a layer of Essie's 'Here to stay Base Coat' followed by a luscious coat of 'hi Maintenance'. I love how with only a single coat, this rich girl shade evens out tone while brightening the look of the nails.

He added: I let the nails dry for one minute and applied a thin even coat of  'FX expressie Halo top coat'. This gave her nails just the right amount of sparkle to mimic the sequins in the dress. Then for effect, I also added a coat of Essie's 'Gel Setter Top Coat' for a deep rich high gloss shine fit for the red carpet!

Essie is a hugely popular brand that is both high in quality yet relatively inexpensive. It's amazing to know a world famous movie star doesn't spend huge amounts of money on incredible products.

Manicurists behind brands like Rag & Bone and BCBG Max Azria left models' digits almost naked, buffing away until they naturally shined.

The Exact Blush Margot Robbie Used To Get Her Golden Globes Glow

Of course, Hollywood followed suit, and in the months following, celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Margot Robbie and even over-the-top pop princess Katy Perry dialed down the nail art for the subtle, less-is-more effect. But is constantly buffing—or polishing—your nails actually good for you?

Compared to getting acrylics and gel manis, buffing is a healthy alternative, noted Sarah Gibson Tuttle, owner of celeb hot spot Olive & June in Beverly Hills. In fact, during the Depression Era, when people didn't have the resources to keep up with aspirational beauty standards, buffed nails were a sign of good health, celeb manicurist Michelle Saunders told

Just like why you exfoliate your skin, buffing clears the nails of excess layers. However, limit polishing to once a week and use a four-sided buffer, which offers different surface textures rather than an abrasive nail filer.

Margot Robbie's Pink French Manicure Is Her Latest Homage To Barbie

Yep, this may seem like a low-maintenance nail trend, but getting perfectly buffed nails requires work. While polish usually can camouflage typical cuticle growth, dryness and damaged nails, this trend exposes everything. To maintain Mani Cam-worthy nails, keep your cuticles hydrated and nails strong by applying nourishing oils to those digits every day. One of our client favorites is Horse Power Nail Strengthener by Butter London, Sarah recommended.

If the maintenance seems overwhelming, fake until you make it with the many neutral polish shades that mimic the color of shiny, naturally buffed nails. Brand RGB Cosmetics even offers a color perfectly dubbed Buff, a favorite of Sarah and, of course, many a celebrity.
