Margot Robbie Movie Cancelled

Robbie told Vanity Fair that she had been working on the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie for some time, but the project never really set sail because Disney seemingly decided not to move forward with it.

We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would've been really cool, Robbie explained. But I guess they don't want to do it.

It was announced in 2020 that Robbie would be the star of a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie written by Birds of Prey screenwriter Christina Hodson. The Robbie-led feature was not intended to be a spinoff of the long-running franchise but rather an original story with new characters.

Pirates franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer was said to be on board to produce both this movie and a second new Pirates movie that was reported to be in the works with Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin. There hasn't been any word on whether Mazin's reboot is still going ahead.

Bruckheimer confirmed this year that two scripts were being developed for a new movie in the Pirates franchise — one with Robbie, and one without her. He didn't reveal who the star of the other movie would be, but suggested the future is yet to be decided for Johnny Depp.

The last adventure in the swashbuckler series was 2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which called okay, recognizing that it should probably be the final voyage for Sparrow and his mates.

Margot Robbie's Female Led 'pirates Of The Caribbean' Movie Cancelled As Disney Cuts Jobs

However, it seems that the hype surrounding The Suicide Squad star's involvement with Disney's pirate-centric franchise has died down after a new report of its unfortunate development.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Margot Robbie opened up about the female-led spin-off of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise that she was set to star in.

Robbie confirmed she had previously been developing it for a while but Disney doesn't want to do it, meaning that the planned feature film will no longer be moving forward.

Margot Robbie Says Her 'pirates Of The Caribbean' Movie Is Cancelled

“We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess [Disney] don’t want to do it.

“Her superpower and the thing that makes her a once-in-a-generation talent is that she can do everything. If you watch Margot learn a new skill, it’s pretty terrifying. When we did stunts for Birds of Prey, the stunt teams would show something to her once. She tries it once, and by the second time, she’s better than them.”

“People have got strong feelings. I’d much rather that than indifference. Now, let me subvert your expectations. It’s much scarier, but it’s also a great place to begin.”

Margot Robbie Says Goodbye To 2022 With A Box Office Flop And Another Setback

Vanity Fair pointed out in its feature that Robbie is a true working producer, with the actress attending preproduction meetings, being present on set, and even getting yelled at by agents.

When the outlet noted that many actors who get producer credits don't do any producing, Robbie admitted that it pissed [her] off:

In the early stages of every project, Robbie has been kept off email chains or not invited to calls because some people reportedly assume that the producer credit is just a vanity title for her:

Everything We Know About Margot Robbie's

“Then everyone realizes after a few months, ‘Oh, she actually is a producer, but even still, people direct all the money questions at my producing partners, never at me. And so many times Tom and Josey have to say, ‘She’s the one to ask, actually.’ ”Is the Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise Gone?

This unfortunate development about Margot Robbie's Pirates of the Caribbean movie could hint that trouble is brewing within the franchise, but it's likely that this setback doesn't mean that the Pirates name is completely dead under the Disney banner.

Margot

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has earned $4.5 billion worldwide, making it the 15th highest-grossing film series of all time. This essentially means that the House of Mouse would be smart not to end it any time soon, with the studio presumably mapping out plans to properly expand it first before officially announcing their plans.

Losing a bonafide star like Robbie definitely hurts, but it's possible that her other commitments (DC-related) combined with a potential comeback for Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow could've complicated the plans for the spin-off.

Still, this doesn't mean that Robbie will not be part of any Disney-related project in the future, considering the actress' impressive resume. It's reasonable to assume that Disney has plans for the actress to star in one of the studio's projects someday, and they could be simply finding the right opportunity.

For now, it seems that Robbie will be busy with DC Studios as new CEO James Gunn appears to be set on pushing Harley Quinn at the forefront. It’s been revealed that Margot Robbie’s Pirates Of The Caribbean movie has been cancelled by Disney, which doesn’t surprise me. This was revealed by Robbie herself during a recent interview with Vanity Fair, and I have to say that it’s probably a good decision for both Disney and Robbie. I’ll explain why in a second.

Amsterdam' Movie Starring Margot Robbie And Taylor Swift Release Date, Cast, News And Spoilers

Writer, Christina Hodson. The idea for this movie was not to do a formal spin-off but rather a separate origin story with new characters. This movie was going to be separate from the Johnny Depp Pirates movies, and it really wasn’t a very popular idea amongst Depp and Pirates fans. It seems as though they all wanted more of Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow.

We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led — not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story — which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it,

So, as Robbie put it, it sounds as though her Pirates movie is “dead in the water”. This means that Disney is no longer interested in making this movie, and I think I know why. This all comes after Johnny Depp won his defamation case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. This changed a lot of things for Hollywood. Many studios didn’t want to touch Depp because of the whole Heard situation. His ex-wife has accused the actor of domestic abuse. However, Depp sued Heard for libel after she published an article in the Washington Post in which she claimed that he had been a victim of domestic abuse whilst she was married to Depp.

The jury found that there was no evidence that Heard had been a victim of domestic abuse whilst she was married to the Pirates Of The Caribbean actor and awarded Depp $15 million in damages. This was a huge win for Depp and a massive loss for Heard, who has since fled to Spain. Depp’s win also meant that studios are now interested in working with him again.

One of those studios seems to be Disney, and I think they might be looking at trying to convince him to make another

Movie. This comes after Depp claimed that he would never work with Disney again after the way the studio treated him over the whole Amber Heard debacle.

Margot Robbie's 'pirates Of The Caribbean' Movie Canceled By Disney

It’s going to be interesting to see how this develops moving forward, and I cannot wait to see what Depp does next. As for Robbie, she’s also got so many projects in the pipeline at the moment that I wonder whether she might have just been too busy to also work on a
